Some weeks test your mental strength more than your golf game. This was definitely one of them.
Over the past few tournaments, the weather and tee-time draws have not exactly been on my side, and this week was no exception. Between multiple delays and extremely challenging conditions, staying focused on the task at hand required constant adaptation and determination.
The second round was particularly eventful. Shortly after hitting my first shot of the day, play was suspended for nearly an hour and a half. Once we resumed, we played seven holes in heavy rain before enjoying a brief period of drier conditions. However, the relief was short-lived as the final four holes were played in some of the heaviest rain I have ever experienced on a golf course.
As I arrived on the 18th tee, play was suspended once again. We eventually resumed the following morning at 7:30 a.m. The situation was straightforward: a par on the final hole would secure my place for the weekend. Fortunately, I got the job done.
Making the cut under those circumstances was extremely satisfying. Not only because of the result itself, but also because of the way it was achieved. In conditions like these, every shot requires complete focus, and even the smallest mistake can be costly.
After several more hours of waiting before the final round could begin, I finally had the opportunity to play in much more reasonable weather conditions – a rare occurrence this week.
There are many positives to take away from this tournament. My game continues to improve, the good feelings are building, and confidence is growing week after week. More importantly, this week confirmed my ability to stay patient, committed, and resilient when circumstances become difficult.
The hard work is paying off, and the progress is becoming increasingly visible. Now, all that’s left is to hope for a little more sunshine in the weeks ahead.
The season continues next Tuesday with another Pro Golf Tour event near Cologne, Germany. Another great opportunity to keep building momentum and continue moving forward.
